A Simple Sugar Fix, Fix

Let’s suppose that two or three of us reading this, whether they had a plan in place or not, may have, hypothetically, overindulged in the sugar-rich Thanksgiving treats.  And now, these folks are, in theory, feeling less than their best.  

And let’s say they are planning to get back to their normal workout and eating plans, but need a pick-me-up or a “reset” to help them get back on track.  Perhaps something potent, something natural, something green will, theoretically, help…

Enter: My Sugar Fix, Fix

My “fix” is a mixture I came up with a few years ago.  There’s nothing profound about it, but it does seem to help me reset if / when I indulge in a little too much sweet, tasty, decadent, desirable… junk food.  It’s simple and easy to make, and you probably already have the inexpensive ingredients in your kitchen, but if not, you can get your hands on them rather quickly.  Be sure to choose organic / non-GMO items if available.

The Fix

  • 1 Cup Filtered or Spring Water
  • 1/2 Organic Lemon, Squeezed
  • 1/4 to 1/2 Organic Granny Smith Apple, De-cored with Peel Intact
  • 1 Cubic Inch Fresh Organic Ginger, Skinned
  • 1 Good Fistful of Organic Romaine* and / or Organic Green Leaf Lettuce

Cleanse the produce, then place all ingredients into juicer, and go for it.  If a juicer is not available, use a blender or smoothie maker, and then strain the mixture into a drinking glass.  This beautifully bright green drink can be enjoyed any time of the day, multiple times, if desired, but try it first thing in the morning if possible.

Does it Work?

My opinion on the helpfulness / healthfulness of The Fix is rather subjective; I just know it well works for me.  Maybe it’s all in my head (and those okay, power of mind and body and all), but I do feel better after drinking a serving.  While I did choose the ingredients based on the following well-known benefits**, I invite you to research these claims for yourself.

Spring Water: Typically purer with higher mineral content than tap water

Lemon: Good source of vitamin C, alkalizing, possible detoxifier, aids digestion, and assists liver

Granny Smith Apple: High in fiber, also aids digestion and assists liver, and is rich in antioxidants

Ginger: Aids digestion, fights inflammation, assists the liver, contains potent antioxidants, and may help fight disease

Romaine Lettuce: High levels of  calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, and potassium as well as vitamins C and K, and folate

Green Leaf Lettuce:  Good source of fiber and various vitamins and minerals including vitamins A, B, C, and K, iron, calcium, and magnesium

Your taste buds and imagination are the only limits, but try to stay with ingredients that enhance the healthfulness of the drink.
